Artist Story
I create earrings, rings, necklaces and bracelets. I’ve always had a passion for earrings in particular. I use different types of media to make these jewelry pieces, such as metal clay, sea glass, beads, wires, fabrics, resin and other types of materials. I love to play with various colours and textures. I studied geology when I was younger and have always had a love for metals and gems; which I hope to incorporate more of over time.
I always aim to create something that has a unique look. I want to create jewelry that allows a person to feel bold, different and proud of what they are wearing.
I started making jewelry in October 2024. I have been experimenting with various methods to create nature inspired pieces with a boho flare.
I am a self-taught artist. I learned most of my skills by watching a lot of videos online. I also love to ask people about how they create their products, which include local artists in Yellowknife. I am constantly inspired by the people around me. My creativity sparks in interesting ways when I engage with other members of the community.
I love the peace and freedom that creativity brings to my life. Trying new things feels liberating. The type of work that I have always done doesn’t always allow me to tap into my creative side, so it feels good to be able to do that now. I used to sew when my kids were younger and I did enjoy it, but I hadn’t made any art for years. It’s nice to reconnect with that. Plus, it’s exciting to see people wearing the pieces that I have created!
My artwork represents freedom of expression. I just envision that my art can help people explore the side of themselves that make them feel the most curious and free. I want my jewelry to bring our sense of adventure to the surface. I hope to capture our natural free spirit, the place within us that makes us feel good when we are curious about and open to the world. I have high hopes for what I am creating, but that’s my goal!
