Artist Bio:

Yellowknife based artist Shawna Lampi-Legaree’s latest venture can best be summarized as capturing moments of beauty from the world around her. She is what you call a 'late-ish bloomer' as she took up painting just shy of the 1/2 century mark. She has been a professional painter since 2013.

Shawna exploration in acrylic paint has allowed her to do the deep dive into the wealth of the feathered friends that all northerners love.  She has enjoyed the wonderful winter antics of trickster ravens, playful ptarmigan and mischievous LBT’s (little brown things).  Every season finds Shawna out with her camera capturing the beauty of our northern birds whether they are permanent residence or summer visitors. Watch for some interesting paintings capture flight, reflection in water and the sheer beauty of birds in our northern landscape.

Her exploration of ephemeral flowers in watercolour has been a glorious journey of seeking out and capturing the delicate and luminous quality of the blossom.  Simply put, she has been “painting summer sunshine all winter long”. Her technique includes multi-layer washes which build to a crescendo on the paintings that capture the drama of sunlight and the depth of shadows.

Shawna has decided to give back and share what she has learned over the past decade.  Each week (Thursdays at 6pm MST) she does a live stream direct from her studio here in Yellowknife NWT Canada. She has started bi-weekly video uploads (every second Friday at 4pm MST) beginning with her Acrylic Painting 101 class that she has been teaching since 2015.  Check out and subscribe to her channel at : https://www.youtube.com/c/ShawnaLampiLegaree

Her paintings have been juried into the Federation of Canadian Artists Art Shows, Artists for Conservation and Richeson75.  She has earned her signature status with Canadian art organizations: Federation of Canadian Artists and Artists for Conservation.  Shawna’s work has been published in multiple books.
