Artist Bio

Brenda Gauthier née McLeod was born in Hay River, Northwest Territories, to her parents Noella and John McLeod. Growing up in the Hamlet of Fort Providence, Northwest Territories, Brenda was surrounded by crafters who specialized in beading and sewing moose hair tufting, which became her source of entertainment and inspiration.

As a self-taught artisan, Brenda honed her beading skills by collaborating with others and continuously improving her techniques. However, it wasn't until 2016 that she decided to take her passion for beading more seriously. Throughout her journey, Brenda has cherished the company of friends while engaging in the art of beading.

What truly motivated Brenda to excel in her craft were her two young cousins, whose presence encouraged her to become a skilled and accomplished beader.

Today, Brenda has expanded her career beyond beading and holds the prestigious position of Official Languages Commissioner for the Government of the Northwest Territories. Her dedication to promoting linguistic diversity and cultural heritage in the Territory serves as a testament to her multifaceted talents and commitment to making a positive impact on her community.
