Story/Description

Last Updated: October 28, 2021

Folk on the Rocks originated in 1980 as a non-profit society dedicated to organizing professional development and performance opportunities for Northern performers. Our well anticipated annual music festival draws one of the largest audiences to gather in the North and has gained a national reputation as one of the ‘must do’ events on the music festival circuits.

Mandate

Folk on the Rocks’ mandate is to promote the performing arts by organizing culturally diverse events for the benefit of NWT residents, northern performing artists and visitors to the NWT.

Objectives

1. Advance the development of the performing arts in the NWT;
2. Promote and support northern talent in music, art and entertainment;
3. Program culturally diverse entertainment events for the benefit of NWT residents and performers;
4. Provide a venue in which northern performers can work together and develop and showcase their talent alongside musicians from outside the north.

Goals & Artistic Objectives

Through an approximate 50 percent/50 percent mix of ‘Northern’ (NWT, Yukon and Nunavut) and other talent, we offer unique cross cultural experiences and opportunities for both artistic and audience.
