City of Yellowknife Transformer Utility Box & Street Light Box Public Art Program

 

The City of Yellowknife and Northland Utilities have partnered in a public art initiative which will see several transformer and street light boxes resurfaced by artists.

 

Painters, digital, mosaic and graffiti artists as well as artists who draw, photograph and any other artists working in two dimensional mediums are invited to submit a proposal to the City. Artists will be selected by a five person project team.

Submissions are now open for the 12th edition of the Canadian Folk Music Awards (CFMA). Canadian artists and groups whose albums were released in Canada between June 15, 2015 to June 14, 2016

Dear YK ARCC members and friends,

Please take notice that the Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday May 1st 2016, at 3PM, at the studio located on 3-3541 Macdonald Drive, in Yelllowknife's Old Town.

At this occasion, the ARCC will present the financial statements for the year 2015-2016 and we will proceed with the election of the board of directors. The AGM is also an occasion for YK ARCC's membership to reflect on last year's accomplishments and to lay the ground for the year starting up.

The NLMCC in partnership with High TEA is putting together a community art exhibit to be shown through the month of May (exact exhibition date has not been chosen yet).  All genres of art are welcome in the show, but there is a request that any submissions have not been shown publicly before in another art exhibit/show.

Genre examples include: jewellery, pottery, quilting, acrylic, water colour, fabric free form, embroidery, knitting, wood work, metalwork, stained glass, tufting, fish scale art, photography, etc. All artistic creations are welcome in this exhibit.

Kiri's Piano on Community TV

 

Northwestel Community TV is very pleased to present Yellowknife director France Benoit's film "Kiri's Piano" (2014) this week on YK Ch 709. Based on a James Kellaghan song of the same title, the film is set on the BC coast during the early years of WW2, but was shot entirely in Yellowknife.
