Artist Run Community Centre (ARCC) and Folk on the Rocks partnership
Yellowknife – May 30th, 2014 – The Yellowknife Artist Run Community Centre (ARCC) and Folk on the Rocks are announcing a new partnership between the two organizations, with the collective aim of boosting the artistic presence at the Folk on the Rocks music festival.
Many of the existing structures at the Folk on the Rocks site need to be repainted or repaired. David Whitelock, the new executive director of Folk on the Rocks, saw this as an opportunity to pull in the arts community, and so he approached the ARCC to propose a partnership.
The hope is for a site that, through art and design, makes a statement festivalgoers can engage with and reflect on, rather than a site that is just functional.
In addition to bringing an artistic approach to functional structures (like stages, outhouses, merchandise stands), several art installations are in the works by different local artists.
The upgrades will take place over a series of “work parties” at the site on Saturdays from 3-7 pm. There is a call out for volunteers and artists that are interested in helping out. If interested, contact firstname.lastname@example.org or come out on Saturday, June 14th at 3:00 pm for this week’s work party. Food and refreshments will be provided.
