DEADLINE for SUBMISSION:  OCTOBER 1st, 2016

Yellowknife Artist Run Community Centre (YK ARCC) is accepting submissions from artists with an interest in developing a site-specific project for the annual Snow Castle.  We are looking for projects that examine and explore themes connected to the Winter Festival itself and/or the surrounding landscape of Great Slave Lake and Yellowknife Bay.

Hay River gallery owner promises a 'positive vibe' in gallery that will also hold classes

Natacha Kruger-Rewega knows exactly when and where she got the idea for her new art gallery and studio, which is nearing completion next her house in Old Town.

It was three years ago in Bella Coola, B.C.

"I saw this amazing little shop that this lady had right beside her house," said KrugerRewega. "All you had to do was ring the bell if you needed help."

A special celebration will take place in the N.W.T.'s South Slave region today to mark the opening of a new cultural gathering place.

It's the official opening of the community's new arbour — an outdoor, circular arena that seats up to 600 people for cultural activities and other events.

"They took the old one down a number of years ago and we kind of miss a gathering place, so this new arbour is really significant," said Joachim Bonnetrouge, chief of the Deh Gáh Got'ie First Nation, and just one of many dignitaries expected at today's event.

The third-annual Metis Cultural Days are set for August 19th to 21st in Fort Smith.  The featured performers will be Native Cousins, North Country Rock, Lee and George Mandeville, and Linda Duford and Pat Coleman.  The event, which will take place at Roaring Rapids Hall, is being presented by the Northwest Territories Metis Cultural Institute.read more

The NLMCC staff would like to thank everyone who attended the 2016 Summer Splash Artisan Fair and Farmers Market on August 6th, 2016.

We had 22 vendors from around the South Slave in attendance and even more locals who came out to support our local artists, bakers, and farmers. Thank you for your continued support of the Summer Splash Arts Festival.

Call for photographers to carry out photo-portraits sessions for the community of Yellowknife NWT.

 

As part of its artistic project "Mosaic NWT", the Association Franco-Culturelle De Yellowknife (AFCY) seeks professional and amateur photographers. 

The project aims to create a Nordic themed mosaic, in which photographic portraits will be included in a paint-by-numbers painting created by a local artist. An opening will take place in March 2017, during a day dedicated to Francophonie.

League of Canadian Poets Canada Poetry Tours funding program: Funding available for Hosts and Poets

Applications for this funding program are currently open, and they are trying to reach out to areas of Canada that have not historically been represented quite as well in their programs—so  they are hoping to spread the word about this program to writers, poets, and event organizers that could potentially benefit. Deadline is July 31, 2016.

Yellowknife Dance Collective (YDC) will be presenting Moving Spaces, a site specific dance show at the 2016 Old Town Ramble and Ride festival.  

 

Show is FREE and starts at 2pm on both Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31. Location: Government Dock in Old Town

Media Release - YK ARCC has New Gallery/Workshop and Studio Space Downtown

 

The Yellowknife Artist Run Community Centre (YK ARCC) has a new location in downtown Yellowknife.  Located at the lower level of Cloudworks One, 5112-52nd St (the old Union of Northern Workers building), YK ARCC has an artist studio and large gallery or workshop space available for use by local and visiting artists.

The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre has a variety of traveling exhibits to share with your community.  These exhibits were developed by the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre to allow community residents access to the collections and resources of the Heritage Centre.
