The Festival provides communities around the world with a selection of award-winning and critically acclaimed selection of films; featuring adventure, mountain culture, and mountain sport. VIMFF was founded in 1998 in Vancouver; and between the 40 VIMFF shows in Vancouver and the many Tour events worldwide (mostly in Canada and the US, but also in Europe and South Africa), the VIMFF has an annual audience of 22,000 and growing.

The VIMFF itself is an annual international 9-day community festival, featuring mountain film screenings, live multimedia presentations, photography exhibitions, workshops, seminars & other special events. Driven by a passion for film, culture, and the outdoors, the VIMFF Society seeks to advance appreciation of films and filmmaking while inspiring, informing, and educating the public in these areas.
