Taiko Roadtrip Challenge: Loco Ladies & Skyfire Taiko

March 4th, 2023
Northern Arts and Cultural Centre

Amazing things happen when people dream together! And taiko dreams are loud and fun!

The Loco Ladies, three taiko characters based in Europe, have teamed up to bring a lot of taiko enthusiasm to the world. And in March 2023, Mel, Romi and Chiara, and their Taiko Roadtrip of all original taiko songs are coming to Yellowknife! The show is a collaboration with local taiko ensemble Skyfire Taiko and their special guest David Dowe. Don't miss this high energy evening of taiko drumming! It will be unforgettable!

Loco Ladies
Born out of one lady’s crazy idea for a Taiko Roadtrip Challenge in 2020, these three taiko characters have teamed up to bring a little loco to the taiko world. The Loco Ladies are one Argentinean, one Australian and one Italian: all based in Europe. Loco Ladies' mission is to encourage every taiko player to follow their dreams and to show what is possible when you know that no dream is too crazy. They do this by creating unique taiko projects, sharing experiences, teaching workshops, performing, creating events, facilitating motivational talks and assisting with developing ideas into reality.

SkyFire Taiko
Taiko is a style of drumming originating in Japan that combines music with martial arts. A physically demanding and visually impressive art form, taiko is played and enjoyed worldwide. Inspired by the energy of the northern lights, SkyFire Taiko, based in Yellowknife, features Nancy Mullick, Leslie Gray, and Eva Paul as well as their special guest, David Dowe.
