Artist Bio:

Sì Stacey Siyeh, I was born in Yellowknife and raised in T'éschelá, Brunt Point a.k.a. T'è?ehdaà a.k.a. Dettah. My parents are Maro/ Mary Rose & Brian Sundberg, grandparents on my fathers side Late Victor and Viola and on my moms side are Mary Louise Drygeese and the Late John Drygeese. As children living in Dettah, we were always brought on the land, we were taught to sit beside elders, listen to the TK, the stories, to also learn the bush skills and survival skills that their great great grandparents passed on. I was blessed to have opportunities to sit with my grandparents and for our parents bringing us out on the land to learn and to have that connection. I got interested in my grandmothers sewing art as a young girl sat with my grandmother and to grow up learning her style of sewing and great knowing her mother and grandmothers sewing were so important to her and the stories she still continues to tell me today are treasure for me. After attending College and University down south, and coming back home, I really started to understand how important family and learning the Dene ways of the elders of the north is very important as well. Now I work towards helping youth know our Dene Games, Dene Language and Culture because it is very important to our elders that we all know this stuff!
