Artist Story

My art is hand knitting. I learned to knit as little girl from my mother who learned to embroider from her mother. I learned to pay attention to details and finish things properly. It is a good way to relax and I love the process. It is very therapeutic, very quieting and with the rhythm of the needles, in five to ten minutes if something is bothering me, I just feel different afterwards.

I usually start the process in my head by thinking about the yarn I have and what it could make. Sometimes I will just start without knowing where it will go – I just fool around with the needles and new stitches and then decide what I am going to make. I am inspired by just seeing the product finally finished based on the idea in my head. It never turns out exactly like expected but most of the time I am pleased with end product.

I would say my story is in the beauty of the stitches. I use all different stitches and love the detail in a hand-made garment and that is what shows up in my work. I can express myself in design or in the stitch and make something beautiful. It is finished according to my standards and always one of a kind.
