Artist Story

I look at other people’s artwork in this community and I think everybody has their own unique way of sewing. What they all do is beautiful. I am still learning from my sisters and my mother. It’s so inspiring. The first thing I ever made was a pair of little slippers for kids, for my first son Shane when he was a small baby. I am most proud of anything I sew for my children. Now that my parents are gone, this is what I have left that I learned from them.

My work says that I really enjoy what I am doing. My art is telling me about wanting to explore and make new things and other projects. It also says that I like to progress and keep learning because it is beautiful and it is our tradition. Sewing comes from nature and it brings me peace. I love making stuff for my children, family and friends and enjoy making things for other families and outsiders.

I am teaching my kids how to sew right now and helping others, too, like young girls. I tell them stories about how this is what our great ancestors did why it is so important for them to carry those traditions on.
