Brian Willows

Artist Bio:

Hello, Brian Willows here from the great white north. I have lived in the Northwest Territories for over 40 years and I have lived in many northern communities in that time from Fort Smith to Inuvik to Yellowknife to Hay River, where I eventually retired. I have experienced firsthand the breadth and majesty of this great territory

The North is truly a visual wonder with landscapes from mountains to valleys. Some of the greatest rivers and lakes in the world with river deltas rich with the wonders of fish, foul, and the many great species of mammals that roam freely under the northern skies.

The one thing that all these regions possess is the magical and spiritual wonder of the Aurora Borealis, the North Lights. The skies of the North are endless, clear and present in the lives of those who have the privilege to live wrapped in their beauty and comfort.

An Aurora Borealis Christmas is born from that embrace and the love of our grandchildren. The book began as a poem we would read on Christmas Eve to our grandchildren and evolved to this beautiful book illustrated by my sister-in-law Christine Willows. The illustrations are truly magical and do great justice to the experience of the Aurora Borealis and the experience from the eyes of our northern children.

The book has been received with enthusiasm by those who have viewed it. It has been shipped to many countries and was used by the Yukon Government in a literacy program for inmates to read to their children via video for Christmas.
