The unique talents of Artists in the Northwest Territories blend traditional with modern styles to create beautiful pieces with materials that are (literally!) found in our backyard. Artists from the Northwest Territories transform stone, bones, hides, furs, plants gemstones and recycled materials into striking art. Each piece tells a story.

TUFTING
No two tuftings are alike - each is designed to its makers unique vision.
  
TANNED HIDES
Transformed into practical items such as moccasins, gloves and warm winter jackets, tanned hides are proudly worn by many people.
BIRCHBARK BASKETS
These beautiful hand crafted baskets are works of art sought by collectors all over the world.
    
QUILLWORK
Using the quills of the porcupine, this intricate are is used to decorate hide, fabric and birchbark.

Performing Arts
Traditional music, storytelling, and dancing are alive and well throughout the Northwest Territories. Inuit, Inuvialuit, Gwich’in, Dene and Métis carry on their longstanding traditions in every community, and at festivals and events held across the territory. Newer traditions, from all parts of the world, encourage contemporary theatre, music, dance and storytelling.
