Social Venture Partnership
To Whom it May Concern,
We are a group of five 4th year Bachelor of Commerce students at Royal Roads University on Vancouver Island. Our assignment is to create an e-commerce initiative that will aid a Canadian non-for-profit organization of our choosing, all within a period of 8 weeks.
We identified the Canadian Arctic Aid Society (CAAS) as a charity that all members of our team are passionate about. CAAS aims to provide basic amenities, including food, clothing, medical and educational supplies, and housing materials to the needy in remote communities in northern Canada.
We are finalizing the design of a simple web site to facilitate our initiative. Our intent is for Northern artists to sell their artwork through an online silent auction. The structure of the proposed initiative would allow for the artist to collect fifty percent of the profit from the sold artwork while the remaining fifty percent would be donated to the CAAS.
The time frame for this project is perhaps the most difficult constraint. The assignment requires that we launch the project in the last week of April and continue to promote it for 8 weeks.
We would like to discuss if there are synergies that could be utilized to maximize the benefit for artists in the north and the efforts of CAAS. Please let us know if this is something that you are interested in, and feel free to call or email me.
Thank you,
Matt Antwright

Plastic People - A New Media Exhibition at the Gallery on 47th
https://www.facebook.com/events/548738225146562/
Reception will be Friday April 19 from 6 - 10pm
Plastic is a ubiquitous material that has found a place in every nation and culture. In essence we as modern humans have become the Plastic People. From its source as a synthetic derived from petrochemicals, we can examine the benefits, the detriments, the creative applications and the final resting places that plastic finds itself.
The impact we hope to have on the community is to raise awareness of the long term effects of plastic culture in the North from a social,
environmental and political context. We hope to generate media exposure for the participating artists and community organizations that are interested in participating or collaborating on this exhibition.
Plastic objects are the cultural archeology of our time. These objects I see as a portrait of global late-capitalist consumer society, mirroring our desires, wishes, hubris and ingenuity. These are objects with unintended consequences that become transformed as they leave the quotidian world and collide with nature to be transformed, transported and regurgitated out of the shifting oceans.
Drifters Project
http://driftersproject.net/
Plastic People give us the opportunity for some depth of thought in exploring our relationship with plastic as a material (Is it helpful? It is harmful? Is it both?) We can consider what it is to live in an era of human civilization whose plastic legacy will survive far into the future.

2014 Canadian Art Calendar: Call for Submissions
This year, Canadian artists are invited to submit works of art for the publication of our first Canadian Art calendar.
Our goal is to produce a 13 month calendar (December 2013 - December 2014) that showcases the art of artists in each of our 13 land areas -- 3 territories and 10 provinces.
We encourage artists from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Yukon Territory, Northwest Territories and Nunavut to submit images. A panel will choose one artist from each area.
How to: Submit up to 5 images by low resolution (72 dpi) to: info@artistsforthepoor.ca
-with the word Calendar in the subject line
-with a short bio
-with your province indicated
If we select your piece, we will contact you and we will need a slide of the chosen image or a CD with the highest possible resolution (350 - 400 dpi). Amateur photography will not be acceptable.
In order to thank you for participating, selected artists will be given $50 each and sent a calendar.
Deadline for submissions: May 18, 2013
This is primarily a fundraising effort as we seek to raise additional funds to give to charities working with those living in extreme poverty. Also, it is our hope is that the 13 artists chosen would benefit by selling a greater number of works as a result of participating in this project.
The calendars will be sold through our website, at our 4 Art Walks downtown Calgary this summer and through sales reps.
Any questions? Please email us at: info@artistsforthepoor.ca
Thank you for your consideration and your time.
Thanks,

The Healthy Aboriginal Network
Non-profit promotion of health, literacy & wellness
Good day. We have recently been funded to create a poster series on the UN Rights of the Child, but with an Aboriginal youth focus. Something along the lines of what the Scottish have done (see http://w ww.sccyp.org.uk/resources/uncrc-illustrated-guide/images-young-people) but more diverse for our people. The primary audience is youth in care, and the posters will posted on-line.
Consequently, we are looking for First Nations, Metis and Inuit artists to compliment the work that our existing comic book artists do, to round out the project. The works can be traditional or contemporary, cultural or not, paintings or illustrations, but at the very least focused for youth. And they should match one of the Rights, of course. I hesitate to request professionals only, as many artists deserve to be published and never are. But please be discerning with your referrals - we have a reasonably high standard over here and people have come to expect it from us.
Artists, I need to see samples of your work either on-line or submitted as an attachment to an email. We prefer new works, but will consider licensing existing works from established artists. One of our graphic artists will place the Right text for you, or you can do it yourself if you wish. Please let me know in advance which Right you intend to submit, artists. Email sean@thehealthyaboriginal.net.
All artists will retain copyright and receive a decent sized honorarium. For you emerging artists, just desserts for your years of toil. For the more established artists, a pittance, but we are hoping that you get on board because of the cause (nearly half of the youth in care in BC are Aboriginal) rather than the money.
We are also considering still photos / video of youth in their regalia for augmented reality posters (with smart phones. See http://www.ted.com/talks/matt_mills_image_recognition_that_triggers_augmented_reality.html for an example). So if you live in Vancouver and are interested please send an email to sean@thehealthyaboriginal.net.
And lastly, if you're a professional Aboriginal photographer and you have your own camera and lights we might have some work for you.
We hope you continue to find us relevant to youth's needs,

CMF Announces 2013-2014 program budget, guidelines and deadlines
TORONTO, March 18, 2013 - The Canada Media Fund (CMF) today announced Program Guidelines for the 2013-2014 fiscal year. It also announced the program budget for 2013-2014 set at $360.7 million.
“As announced last year, 2013-2014 will mark the second year of a two year approach for the guidelines. We’ve also furthered our goal to reward success by implementing a Digital Media Performance Measurement Framework and a mechanism for recording sales. Stakeholders provide an invaluable contribution to the advancement of our policies and programs and we would like to thank them for their input. The CMF will organize consultation meetings across the country to meet with stakeholders in person and continue the important process of sharing feedback. A schedule of meetings will be announced in the coming weeks”, stated Valerie Creighton, President and CEO.
The 2013-2014 Program Budget is set at $360.7 million. The breakdown of the Program Budget can be viewed on the CMF website. Please click here.
The program budget reflects revenue forecasts for the coming year based on contributions from the Government of Canada and Canada’s cable and satellite distributors, also known as broadcasting distribution undertakings (BDUs). The 4 % variation from last year in the program budget reflects a conservative estimate of expected BDU contributions to the CMF for the year to come and includes an expected stable contribution from the Government of Canada, pending parliamentary approval of the federal budget.
The CMF’s operating costs, including industry partnerships and program administration, have been reduced by 6 % in keeping with the objective to commit the most funds possible to its programs.
CMF Programs
There have been technical updates to existing program guidelines for 2013-2014. Complete Program Guidelines, application deadlines, and a summary of the technical updates are available on the CMF website cmf-fmc.ca. Application forms will be posted on the CMF website by the end of March, 2013.
Based on recommendations from the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages made to Canadian Heritage, the CMF will allocate $3 million to a new Anglophone Minority program for English-language official-language minority communities in Quebec. English language projects from Québec will no longer have access to the English Production Incentive.
The CMF will also introduce two pilot programs to further support digital media projects during the course of 2013-2014. A budget of $360 K has been earmarked for a pilot program to establish funding partnerships with incubators or accelerators across Canada. A second pilot program will allocate $350 K to an incentive program designed to support international co-ventures in digital media.
Details and guidelines for the Anglophone Minority program and both pilot programs will be announced at a later date.
Stakeholders are invited to share comments and questions by email info@cmf-fmc.ca or through the CMF Twitter feeds @CMF_FMC (English) and @CMF_FMC_FR (French). Application forms will be posted to the CMF website in early April, 2013.
Performance Envelopes Program
On December 5, 2012, the CMF announced the Factor Weights used for 2013-2014 Performance Envelope Calculations. The CMF will be sending broadcaster agreements outlining the amounts allocated for the upcoming year to individual broadcasters by March 28th, 2013. Details about each broadcaster’s Performance Envelope will be posted on the CMF website in mid-April, 2013.

Indigenous Arts at The Banff Centre: Realize Your Creative Potential
Realize your creative potential
The Banff Centre's Indigenous Arts programs enhance opportunities for Indigenous artists – writers, musicians, dancers and choreographers, visual and new media artists, and others – to research, conceive, and produce work with cultural integrity and artistic merit. Programming includes performances, concerts, residencies, presentations, workshops, publications, and exhibitions. Our goal is to contribute to the development of strong and vibrant Indigenous arts communities in Canada and around the world.
Financial assistance is available to Indigenous artists for these programs.
For more information, call 1-877-613-6725 or email indigenousarts@banffcentre.ca.
Diverse As This Land
Voice Intensive Workshop
Indigenous Arts has expanded the program to include other sound traditions including singers, actors, storytellers, dancers, and other performing artists working with voice. It explores how land shapes voice and reveals the dynamic spectrum of Indigenous artistry today. The 8-day voice intensive (July 6 - 13, 2013) is an in-depth examination of the human voice as primary channel for communication in the performer-audience relationship.
Participants will have access to world-class voice mentorship with David Smukler, associate vocal coach Donita Large, and guest speakers/mentors. The objective is to free the natural voice from habitual patterns that inhibit the performer's ability to interpret and communicate in his or her particular medium. Working from the feet up, the emphasis will be on establishing a grounded, spine-breath relationship that enables free expression of creative impulse. The deadline for applications is April 12, 2013.
Indigenous Dance Residency
Jock Soto, Faculty
This is the only program in Canada that is led by Indigenous faculty for Indigenous dancers. World-renowned Indigenous choreographers and leading dance instructors come together with dancers from across Canada and around the world to share, investigate, and strengthen contemporary Indigenous dance practice.
The combination of high-level faculty, power of place here in the mountains, and being situated in the heart of Blackfoot and Stoney territories make this program truly unique and transformative. The program is a three-and-a-half-week intensive (July 31 - August 24, 2013) that includes daily technique classes, improvisation classes, performance skills, and the creation of a new choreographic work that will be performed as part of the Banff Summer Arts Festival at The Banff Centre. The deadline for applications is May 1, 2013.
Indigenous Writing Program
Faculty: Tomson Highway, Witi Ihimaera, Lee Maracle
This program is a unique opportunity for writers to develop their writing and storytelling voices amidst a vibrant community of acclaimed faculty and fellow writers. This program offers an extended period of writing time: two weeks at The Banff Centre (September 9 - 21, 2013) and 10 weeks working online from your own home or work space (September 30 - December 6, 2013.)
This program offers invaluable one-on-one editorial feedback with faculty, and cultivates the significant role of writers as storytellers in a dynamic reading series. The deadline for applications is May 1, 2013.
Self-Directed Residencies
for Indigenous Artists
The Banff Centre offers self-directed residencies for Aboriginal artists, enabling the time and space for focused work and providing the freedom to conceptualize, create, research, or complete a project. Self-directed residencies are open to dancers, choreographers, musicians, composers, singer-songwriters, filmmakers, writers, playwrights, and curators. Residencies can be of any duration and artists can apply to come any time.

Robert Wilson's "New Directions"
The Gallery on 47th Street is pleased to announce our first event of the 2013 season, Robert Wilson's "New Directions", opening this Friday, March 15 at 6pm.
OPENING FRIDAY MARCH 15, 2013 6-10 pm
EXHIBTION RUNS MARCH 15-28, 2013 (Tue-Fri 12-5:30, Sat 12-4)
Over the past two years running the gallery, we have seen incredible support for our exhibitions of new local work. In recognition of this obvious need and niche in the Yellowknife community, we will be changing our format to show new collections as we have done in the past, but exculsively and without regular hours outside of scheduled exhibitions.
This first exhibition under our new format features local images that capture the essence of life in Yellowknife. Robert Wilson's "New Directions" explores the beauty in areas and views of the city not generally known for their aesthetic qualities as well as capturing some local quirks and eccentricities in what one might thematically refer to as "Yellowknificana".
"New Directions" will feature a unique mix-and-match sales format, which will allow interested parties to choose a single image or custom set of images (at a packaged price) and purchase them in one of two sizes, framed or unframed. Please join us for an evening of local photography and culture and take the opportunity to create the set of images that best represents your Yellowknife experience.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions and we look forward to seeing you this Friday.
Thank you,
Colin Dempsey

1. Eagle Canopy (Exterior)
2. Medicine Wheel (Interior)
Budget: Exterior Eagle Canopy $100,000 (All-Inclusive)
Interior Medicine Wheel $20,000 (All-Inclusive)
Installation Dates: January - February 2014
Deadline for Submissions: May 15th, 2013
BACKGROUND
The Elder Care Centre is a new 12 resident Elders home built for the community of Fort Chipewyan. Fort Chipewyan is an important historical site in the province of Alberta being the home of the oldest continually inhabited community in the Province. A rich cultural heritage of First Nations and Métis together with the remote, natural, pristine qualities of the area endure throughout this unique community situated on the shores of Lake Athabasca.
The Elder Care Centre will be an important landmark for the community and represents an investment in the traditions and values that support Elder well-being.
Exterior Installation – Eagle Canopy
The Eagle is of great significance within the culture of the Mikisew Cree First Nation. In preliminary planning, the design team allowed for an entry canopy that would: serve as a strong representative element for the building’s ongoing identity; provide shelter from the elements while serving as a distinctive entry feature; and that would, at the same time, be reflective of and responsive to the Membership’s culture. The piece should foster awareness of the community’s heritage, traditions and values and its social connections; and it should ultimately serve as an inviting element of local pride.
Preliminary Elder Care Centre Rendering.
Budget not to exceed $100,000 including all administration expenses, transport of materials and/or finished art/canopy piece, materials, labour, fabrication and installation costs, artist’s fees and taxes.
Interior Installation – Medicine Wheel
A stained glass Medicine Wheel will be designed and installed by the chosen artist. The Medicine Wheel has important traditional value to the community and will serve as a constant reminder of healing and wellness within the Elder Care Centre. The Medicine Wheel will be a stained glass fabrication that is to fit within the dimensions of the main lobby window.
The Medicine Wheel piece will be installed immediately adjacent one exterior window for optimal daylight penetration. The window dimensions are 1700mm X 1700mm.
Budget not to exceed $20,000 including all administration expenses, transport of materials and/or finished piece, materials, labour, fabrication and installation costs, artist’s fees and taxes.
ART CONSIDERATIONS
• Both pieces shall respect traditional First Nations’ (with a focus on Cree) and Métis culture
• Pieces will have lasting durability and be appropriately fabricated for their respective locations
• Pieces will be durable with minimal maintenance required
• All materials, paints, adhesives used shall be off-gassed in keeping with Indoor Air Quality requirements of LEED green building requirements.
The successful artist(s) or creative team(s) will provide a concept for the work of art sited at the locations noted above. Two-dimensional sketches, three-dimensional sketches and renderings in addition to photographic media combinations of the proposed pieces will be considered in the review. The Eagle Canopy design intent is encouraged to be demonstrated by a model/ maquette. The durability of materials, limited up-keep requirements, environmental impact, and thoughtful considerations of maintenance needs are essential.
SELECTION CRITERIA
The successful proponent(s) will be selected based on criteria including Artistic Merit, Community Impact, Economic Value, Maintenance, Quality of Submission, and mindfulness of the Elder Care Centre and its appropriateness to the community and site. Technical proficiency, feasibility of implementation, and integration of artwork to the site will also be considered. The Mikisew Cree First Nation reserves the right to decide that none of the design submissions may be feasible for the site.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Complete copies of the proposal and related materials are to be provided in either paper and/or electronic format. Paper format proposals will be in Letter sized format in full colour. Full colour photos of models may be included depicting several points of view. Electronic copies of the proposal will be accepted on CD, DVD or USB in PC compatible formats (pdf, doc, docx, ppt, Windows Media Player, or MPEG). All submission materials become the property of MCFN and will not be returned.
The proposal package must include the following to be considered:
• Description of the artwork, its intent and rationale – maximum 500 words.
• A well-developed conceptual illustration, maquette, rendering or media presentation of the work.
• Discussion of installation materials and a maintenance plan for the art piece.
• Project timelines and suggested installation procedures.
• Biography or curriculum vitae of the artist/creative team including contact information, address, phone number and email.
• Detailed budget including materials, artist fees, installation, travel and related expenses. Budget numbers indicated above are ‘upset’ budgets and projects must not exceed the stated amount for all aspects of the fabrication, creative work, installation, shipping, and taxes.
• Examples of past public art projects including images of the installed art works, and a short written description of each work.
• References for past projects comparable in nature to the proposal. Provide name, title, organizational affiliation where applicable, email address and phone number.

Arctic Inspiration prize
An immense territory of majestic beauty, the Canadian Arctic is home to a growing population of over 100,000 northern Canadians, with a majority of indigenous peoples with a millennial history and rich culture. Once considered as the last frontier, change and modernization are rapidly making the Arctic more accessible and the subject of increasing public, scientific, industrial and political interest.
Addressing the challenges and seizing the opportunities of accelerating changes in the Arctic environment, culture, technology and economy require innovative approaches, mobilizing the best knowledge from various sources into concrete solutions.
The Arctic Inspiration Prize recognizes and promotes the extraordinary contribution made by teams in the gathering of Arctic knowledge and their plans to implement this knowledge to real world applications for the benefit of the Canadian Arctic, Arctic Peoples and therefore Canada as a whole.
The $1 million CAD Arctic Inspiration Prize is awarded annually and is made possible through the generous endowment of the S. and A. Inspiration Foundation, the commitment of ArcticNet to voluntarily manage the Prize, as well as the contribution of numerous volunteers and partners.

OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTIC SUBMISSIONS
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (“TRC”) believes that artists have a profound contribution to make in expressing both truth and reconciliation.
The TRC invites all artists to submit works that relate to experiences at Indian Residential Schools or that relate to the legacy and impact of those experiences on former students, parents, future generations, communities, and on relationships within families and between communities.
In addition, the TRC invites artists to submit works relating to apology, truth, cultural oppression, cultural genocide, resistance, resilience, spirituality, remembrance, reconciliation, rejuvenation and restoration of Aboriginal culture and pride.
Why is the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada gathering artistic works?
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) is an important part of the agreement that ended most of the lawsuits about Indian Residential Schools. The Commission’s job is to:
• Tell Canadians what happened in the Indian Residential Schools;
• Create a permanent record of what happened in the Indian Residential Schools by establishing a National Research Centre (NRC).
The TRC believes that collecting artistic works is an important and meaningful way to express the truth, impact and legacy of the Residential School experience and to assist with reconciliation.
What kind of works of art can you give?
The TRC is happy to receive your artistic expression in any way that you choose, including decorative and traditional arts, sculptures and carvings, drawings and paintings.
Deadline: Open and ongoing to December 31, 2013
For ALL submissions, you MUST submit a completed Application Form and signed Release Form with your submission. The TRC will NOT return submitted works to the sender. Do NOT send master or original copies. The TRC bears no responsibility for loss or damage to materials that are submitted.
You may also submit a synopsis or explanation of the work, your artist bio or CV, your website address or any other relevant material.
Decisions on which works will be included in the National Events are made by the TRC Commissioners, based on advice from the TRC Vetting Committee, which will be comprised of the TRC Executive Director, TRC creative team, and a number of IRS survivors from across the country.

Dear Sir/Madam:
I am pleased to inform you that nominations are now being accepted for the Prime Minister's Volunteer Awards. The call for nominations is open between December 20th, 2012 and March 1st, 2013. I invite you to submit a nomination and to share this information.
The awards recognize achievements in a wide range of volunteer activity, including:
• individual volunteers or groups of volunteers who give of their time, energy and expertise;
• businesses whose commitment to social responsibility strengthens the communities in which their employees live; and
• not-for-profit organizations whose innovative approaches to volunteerism make a difference every day in the lives of Canadians.
Last year, over 750 nominations were received. With almost half of all Canadians volunteering, we know that there are many volunteers who deserve to be nominated. The Government of Canada wants to make sure that outstanding voluntary efforts are recognized, but we need people like you to help by submitting nominations.
I recently had the privilege of honouring the recipients of the Prime Minister's Volunteer Awards at a ceremony held in Ottawa on December 14, 2012. It was inspiring to meet these 17 remarkable volunteers who have made such deep commitments to their communities.
Award recipients will be recognized at a ceremony and can identify an eligible not-for-profit organization to receive a grant for $5,000 (regional award) or $10,000 (national award).
As your organization is one that could both nominate someone or be nominated, I encourage you to share information about the Prime Minister's Volunteer Awards and the call for nominations. Let's give Canada's volunteers the recognition they deserve.
You will find in the link provided, a short article that can be used in your communications with your members, associates or employees.
For more information, or to learn more about previous award recipients, please visit www.pm.gc.ca/awards or call 1-877-825-0434.
The Honourable Diane Finley
Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development
--
Madame,
Monsieur,
• des bénévoles ou des groupes de bénévoles qui consacrent du temps, de l'énergie et de l'expertise;
• des entreprises dont l'engagement en ce qui a trait à la responsabilité sociale renforce les collectivités dans lesquelles vivent leurs employés;

l'honorable Diane Finley

INSTRUCTOR BIOGRAPHY:
Lung Liu was born in Vietnam near the end of the American War and spent the first few years of his life growing up between two conflicts. His country's invasion of Cambodia to overthrow the Pol Pot Regime and China's retaliation forced his family to escape as one of the boat people when he was just a child. He lived in a refugee camp in Macau for several months before his family was sponsored by a church to move to Canada. His childhood experiences will eventually influence his work as a photographer.
Lung trained as a microbiologist in University and worked in a lab testing water samples upon graduation. Shortly after, he changed career paths and, through self-study, became head of the IT department in a market research firm. He became disatisfied with his job and wanted more meaning in his life. The decision to become a photographer came to him after meeting a visual artist who taught him the basic techniques of darkroom printing.
He has been passionate about photography for the past eight years and in that short period of time, he has garnered much acclaim and recognition. The most elemental themes of his work are based on his childhood experiences - exploring our need to be heard and to form connections through the documentation of communities and isolated groups of people who, despite their separation, desire most to have a place within the greater whole.
Reportage to Lung is anything that informs, and he does that through a mixture of traditional reportage and what some people may consider art. He uses a wide range of styles from documentary to portraiture to landscape and blends it together to form a unique visual aesthetic. His philosophy to teaching is to help photographers develop their own unique visual style – to discover who they are and help them become that instead of a copy of someone else.
His work can be viewed on his website: http://lungliu.com/
or the Facebook event page https://www.facebook.com/events/573884999294663/?fref=ts
#2 - Creating Character Masks with Douglas Witt
In this week long workshop, Master Mask Maker Douglas R Witt will be taking you on a journey to the edge of the beginning… through Larval Mask.
Participants will create a larval mask and give it life. They will explore shape and gesture and develop a mask character from its beggining to end.
Larval masks are very simple and essential theater masks. Their origins come from an ancient Carnival Tradition of the city of Basel, in Switzerland.
They have been brought to theatre by Jacques Lecoq, who discovered their pedagogical value in the physical training of the actor. They are big masks, with very simple shapes that suggest an expression while never fully defining the features of a human face. They announce the lines that will lead to a specific character, but they don’t define it.
Larval masks are on the verge of intellectual development. They are open and available to the space, and need big gestures to make them come to life. In the world of larval masks, everything is at the edge of beginning...
This workshop will run from Monday, January 28th to Friday, February 1st, 7:00 - 9:30 pm. There will be a showing with the artists in attendance on Saturday, February 2nd, 12:00 – 6:00pm.
Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to share in the experience of exploring this wonderful art!

Center Ice Plaza Christmas Market
Hello Yellowknifers!
The Center Ice Plaza and Century 21 Greenway Realty Yellowknife are collaborating to create a new opportunity to shop for and sell crafts, artwork, retail items, baked goods and more over the 2012 holiday season. The concept is simple: we want to attract between 15 and 30 kiosk operators who will set up their merchandise on tables and shelving in our inviting atrium from December 15th to the 23rd. Retailers selling goods manufactured outside of the Northwest Territories will be charged $50/day. 50% of the kiosk space will be reserved for local manufacturers (NWT) and will be available for only $15/day! Only 2 kiosks will be allowed to sell baked goods, and these kiosks will be available exclusively to Yellowknife charitable organizations.
We want to start spreading the word now so that artisans and entrepreneurs can begin stocking up on inventory.
Folks, you can't get better retail space than this. If you're interested, please let us know soon as space is limited.
Please be aware that we reserve the right to be selective when it comes to the items to be sold at the Christmas Market (we have full-time tenants and we don't want product offerings to conflict).
For information, please contact Adrian Bell or Joshua Sayong at Century 21 Greenway Realty Yellowknife - (867) 873-9800. Or stop by and see us at our new office in the Center Ice Plaza, across from Lulu's Market.

Northern Arts and Cultural Centre- Vance Gilbert
THE NORTHERN ARTS AND CULTURAL CENTRE
SEASON ON THE EDGE PRESENTS:
VANCE GILBERT
“Gilbert took audiences across North America by storm. "With the voice of an angel, the wit of a devil, and the guitar playing of a god, it was enough to earn him that rarity: an encore for an opener" wrote the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in its review of a show from that tour. Gilbert's three albums for the Rounder/Philo label - Edgewise (1994), Fugitives (1995), and Shaking Off Gravity (1998) - are all essential additions to the American singer-songwriter collection. With guests as varied as Tuck and Patti, Jonatha Brooke, Patty Larkin, Vinx, and Jane Siberry, all three albums found significant niches on NAC (New Adult Contemporary) and Non-Commercial A3 radio.”

The National Arts Centre
The National Arts Centre
announces
Northern Scene
50 events, 250 artists, 10 days
OTTAWA¬–The National Arts Centre (NAC) is delighted to announce the first programming details of Northern Scene, the sixth in a series of national Scene festivals that showcases the finest established and emerging artists in the country.
Northern Scene will be the largest gathering of artists from Canada’s North ever held outside the region. The festival will celebrate the work of 250 artists from Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Nunavik, and Nunatsiavut in 50 events taking place over 10 days. From April 25 to May 4, 2013, it will feature music, theatre, dance, visual and media arts, film, storytelling, fashion and food in venues throughout the national capital. Northern Scene is a rare opportunity to discover the myriad and often surprising cultural riches of the north. The Presenting Partner of Northern Scene is TransCanada Corporation.
“Northern Scene shines a spotlight on a region of Canada that few Canadians know,” said festival producer and executive director, Heather Moore. “I am excited to introduce audiences to the diverse artistic landscape of the north. I know we will shake up some stereotypes as we celebrate new voices and honour northern tradition.”
Sean McMaster, executive vice-president, stakeholder relations and general counsel says “Through TransCanada’s support of Northern Scene, we can help connect communities across the country in an inspired and meaningful way, providing diverse engagement in celebrated culture and creativity throughout the festival. It is through initiatives like Northern Scene that we can enrich lives, while building healthy and vibrant communities for generations now and in the future.”
The Scene festivals have been celebrating Canada’s artists since Atlantic Scene in 2003. It was followed by Alberta Scene (2005), Quebec Scene (2007), BC Scene (2009) and, most recently, Prairie Scene (2011). Each festival has shared a goal to propel the careers of professional artists by exposing them and their work to new audiences, as well as to a group of well known presenters from all over the world. Since 2003, the NAC has invited 384 presenters from 27 countries to join us in Ottawa to discover and book Canadian talent. To date, this initiative has resulted in more than 400 performance bookings and well over $1.2 million in fees for artists. Northern Scene will welcome 50 Canadian and international agents, presenters and talent scouts to the capital.
“The Government of Canada is proud to invest in Canada’s northern cultural industries, which are receiving important recognition around the world,” said the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health, Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) and Minister for the Arctic Council. “The Northern Scene is an opportunity to showcase Canada’s North, its people, their culture and the diversity of opportunities they create.”
“The Government of Yukon is proud to support the presentation of Yukon’s diverse contemporary culture outside the territory,” Yukon Tourism and Culture Minister Mike Nixon said. “The festival will introduce new audiences to our artists through ten exciting days of music, theatre and visual arts. This will be an excellent opportunity for arts lovers to see Yukon artists at work in a unique and collaborative forum.”
“We have a wealth of talented artists and performers in the Northwest Territories and we want the world to know that we are proud of them,” sa
